Should I get lessons?

I have been trying to learn Guitar, but it is not working out so well. I think I need to get lessons from someone, but my dad always tells me, “Teach yourself guitar or don’t learn at all.” So I don’t know what to do. I just find it hard and I get frustrated with myself easily. Does learning guitar by yourself get easier, or am I just doomed?
